Bounced & rejected email digest
Round up recent failed transactional sends from Mailchimp Transactional, with reasons, every morning.
Every weekday morning, comb through our Mailchimp Transactional (Mandrill) sends from the last day and give me a digest of everything that didn't land, so we can keep the list clean. Find the recent failed sends — hard bounces, soft bounces, rejects, and blocklist hits — and report: - A count by failure type up top. - The affected recipients grouped by reason (bad address, blocklisted, spam block, full mailbox, etc.), with the message subject/template each came from. - For anything unusual, a short diagnosis of the likely cause and what to do (remove address, warm up, check content). Flag any address that has bounced more than once. Keep it a clean list, not raw API output. If nothing failed, say so in one line.
Failed transactional sends — 30 Jun 2026 (last 24h) 18 failures: 12 hard bounce · 3 reject · 2 blocklist · 1 soft Hard bounces (bad address) • j.doe@oldcorp.com — "Your receipt" (repeat, 3rd time ⚠️ remove) • k.smith@ntdomain.co — "Password reset" • …10 more Blocklisted • temp@mailinator.com — "Welcome" (disposable domain) Rejects • 3 to @bigmail.com — reputation block; consider warming a dedicated IP Action: remove the 4 repeat hard-bouncers; the rest are one-offs.
Every failed transactional send is a customer who didn't get their receipt, reset link, or confirmation — and a slow drip on your sender reputation. This routine reads the last day's failures each morning, groups them by reason, and flags repeat offenders, so list hygiene becomes a two-minute inbox task.
How it works
- It uses Mailchimp Transactional to pull recent failed sends and their bounce/reject reasons.
- One grouped digest lands in your inbox each weekday, with repeat bouncers flagged.
- It's read-only — the routine reports failures, it doesn't modify your account or lists.
Make it yours
- Narrow it to hard bounces only, or to a single template like receipts or password resets.
- Widen the window to weekly for lower-volume senders.
- Pair it with a list tool so the agent can also suppress the addresses it flags.
